LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Community Supports the Elderly

Dear Editor:

On behalf of hundreds of seniors, I would like to thank everyone who demonstrated their generous support for the elderly during the recent below  freezing temperatures.  In two days, concerned citizens donated 108 heaters, over 200 blankets and numerous other items. These items were immediately provided to seniors in need by Council on Aging of West Florida. In addition, a sizeable amount of cash was donated for weather-related purposes. I would also like to express our appreciation to the numerous media outlets who helped us reach the public with news of the heating-related needs of the elderly and the increased impact that low temperatures can have on their health.

Thank you,
John B. Clark President/CEO
Council on Aging of West Florida.

We Need a Strong Leader

Dear Editor:

I believe Rudy Giuliani is the only person running for the office of President that will give our country the security we need to survive. Mayor Giuliani’s goal will be to kill or capture the al-Qaeda leadership, destroy the capabilities of the group, and discredit its radical ideology. The main fronts against Al Qaeda are in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. We need someone that will take a strong stance against those that would destroy us and our way of life. He is the only candidate that will remain on offense against the Terrorists. America needs expanded security capabilities and a credible deterrent to stop an attack on U.S. soil. It is only a matter of time before the extremists we are fighting will once again attempt an attack on our soil, and if we respond with weakness, we will give in to these attacks. Without strong leadership, we have no chance against those that would kill us for our way of life. Mayor Giuliani supports important tools like the PATRIOT ACT and FISA, and will work together with Congress to improve our ability to stop terrorists at home – without compromising the rights of U.S. citizens. Mayor Giuliani will ensure that our military has all the forces, tools, skills, and technologies it needs to defeat the terrorists and address other future threats. He will add at least 10 new combat brigades to the Army and will expand our Navy to more than 300 ships. He will ensure that the Air Force has the new refueling tankers it needs, and will build a new long range bomber to replace the B-52. Mayor Giuliani will build a new hybrid military-civilian corps that will help stabilize failing states and prevent the emergence of new terrorist safe-havens. We need to support Mayor Giuliani and make sure we have the proper leadership in office if we are to survive future attacks against our country. We can’t afford to lose this war on terror, we can’t give in or give up, we must win at any cost, or we will lose everything this country has stood for over the last 200 years.

Sincerely, Ed Morgan Gulf Breeze, FL
